5 Tips for Planning Your Custom Cake Order

A custom cake is the centerpiece of a celebration — and a little planning makes the process effortless. Here is what our bakers wish every customer knew before placing a custom cake order.

1. Book Early

Two to three weeks ahead is ideal; wedding cakes deserve six or more. Tiered and sculpted designs are built in stages over several days, so the earlier we hear from you, the more freedom our bakers have. Submit a request through our Custom Cakes page and we will reply with a quote within a day or two.

2. Know Your Serving Count

Guests first, design second — size determines everything else. A cake for twenty and a cake for ninety are different projects from the first sketch, and serving counts drive tiers, structure and price. If you are unsure, industry serving charts like the ones described for wedding cakes are a useful starting point, and we are happy to advise.

3. Bring Inspiration, Stay Flexible

Photos help us understand your taste; our bakers will adapt ideas to what works structurally. Our request form lets you upload inspiration pictures directly, and we treat them as a direction rather than a blueprint — the goal is a cake that looks like the one you imagined and survives the drive to your venue.

4. Think About Flavor, Not Just Looks

Honey cake, vanilla bean, chocolate ganache — a beautiful cake should taste even better. Browse our menu for the flavors we bake every week, and ask about pairing fillings; some of our favorite cakes came from customers who mixed two classics.

5. Ask About Delivery

Tiered cakes travel best with professionals. We will advise what is safest for your venue, and for anything with more than two tiers we will usually recommend letting us handle the trip. One less thing for you to think about on a day that already has plenty.
